There, the closeness of high pasturelands (among them the Emparis plateau) draped in sunlight join the superb high alpine villages on the other side of les Grandes Rousses.
In the local architecture, rare
wood has been replaced by a stone and dark schist, specially in
Bresse or in the two hamelets of Clavans in Haut Oisans (high
and low), all with foutains and little village squares.
During the past, these areas have been important Protestant stronghold in the Oisans region, before the "Edit de Nantes" was revoked in 1685 therefore causing a massive exile of the habitants.
